CCTVs- Checklist before buying

CCTV systems are the in thing today a must have for every corporate, institution and homes. The benefits of using surveillance  have been such that nobody can ignore CCTVs any further. However before you go down to the nearest electronic store for buying a surveillance system, it would be beneficial to keep the following things in mind.
The first thing to check out in a DVR is to check  its frames per second. It can give you a fair idea about the effectiveness of the cctv system you are about to buy. Keep in mind that the average frames per second of a good cctv system is 25 frames per second. Make sure that each of the DVR ports have an individual capacity of recording 25 frames per second. This is an important for realtime viewinf of recorded footage.
The number of television lines (TVL) supported by the cameras is another measure of how good your solution is. The average number of television lines supported by a good cctv system is 400. However there are higher versions available as well and you may opt for them if you think the need to do so for better picture clarity. It is essential that the resolution or picture quality of the video captured in the cctv is good, which would help you in identifying suspects.

The system should have ample storage space for recording and the recording codec should be H.264. A 500 GB surveillance HDD is good enough for 8-12 days of video footage for 4 cameras 24/4 recording.  You should check to total HDD support capacity of the DVR.

Ability of the solution to provide you with live footage over your windows based PC/Laptop and Cellular phones should be checked as its always handy to see your premises while you are away. Cell phones based on symbian, Android and IPhone Platforms are generally supported over 3G, GPRS and Wifi networks.

Lastly, do a research on the reputation of your vendor; number of installation base he has, testimonials from clients and his outlook towards after sales service. Do not hesitate to ask for a online demo if you wish to check the clarity of cameras.
